With the message ‘Ho Prithvi Saaf, Mite Rog Abhishap’ , i.e. Cleanse the Earth to Eradicate the Afflictions of Ailments, the Volunteers of Dera Sacha Sauda & members of its Shah Satnam Ji Green ‘S’ Welfare Force organized 12th Cleanliness drive in Ilford, London, UK on Monday, 1st December 2014.
The campaign was organized in continuation of the objective to make local residents aware about the importance of hygiene and the health benefits associated with it. Revered Guru Ji, our Almighty God, Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan has initiated 104 activities for the welfare of mankind, one of that is to conduct Cleanliness Campaigns to make the earth clean and to spread awareness about the importance of hygiene. Under this welfare activity, 28 Mega Cleanliness Campaigns have been organized in several cities of India including the Mega Cities of Delhi & Mumbai. The same is expanded globally through the devotees residing outside India by carrying such campaigns in their respective states and countries.
There were just 25 Volunteers (almost half the number presents then the previous cleanliness campaigns) who took part in this Safaai Mahabhiyaan. They had travelled from London, Surrey and Gravesend Kent in order to be a part of this historic event.
The Camp started at 11.00 AM and within 2.5 hours the Volunteers had cleansed the dirtiest backyards of Housing Estates in Ilford where residents, homeless people and few businesses have dumped tonnes of garbage, tyres, beer bottles, beddings, carpets, unwanted furniture and much more. It was a pity that the residents didn’t even take care of their own backyard.
No one else was willing to clean up that area due to immense amount of filth accumulated there. But our dedicated Volunteers raked up more than 500 Rubbish Bags, 1 truck full of waste tyres and 2 truck load of other rubbish. About 4500kg of waste was collected this time with just half the workforce. The residents and locals were shocked and delighted to see who we were and what were we doing.
People from local council supported us throughout with a big van collecting all the bin bags raked up by ‘sangat’. They got tired of filling up their trucks and at one point even asked us, ‘why don’t you all stop, aren’t you all tired!?’. I replied that our God, Pita Ji has blessed us with immense power and motivation to serve humanity by doing good deeds in order to awaken the society to clean their own area for a disease free Environment.
They thanked the Sangat (Volunteers) and Reverend Pita Ji whole heartedly for such an inspiration and motivation to clean someone else’s filth.
This event was organized by the support of Manager from the Environment Waste Department of Redbridge Council, Mr Russell Ward. We all thank Mr Ward and the team for giving us this opportunity to play a part in keeping the environment clean.
