The Indian subcontinent was shaken by the devastating earthquake on 8th October 2005. Muaffrabad, the capital city of Pak-occupied Kashmir was the worst hit and it was reduced entirely to rubble. Thousands of innocent people lost their lives in the earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale. Kupwara, Baramula, Tangdhar, Uriareas were badly affected. A pall of gloom descended over the entire area.
