Nurturing Birds
Feeding Wings of Hope: Promoting Bird Care through Food and Water
In 2024, a relentless heat wave has reached unprecedented levels, making daytime breathing difficult for humans. If we struggle, imagine the dire situation for the birds around us. While humans can easily access food and water through services like Zomato and Swiggy, our feathered friends do not have such luxuries. It is our responsibility to step forward and show kindness toward birds.
As the human population grows, our jungles are being replaced by concrete landscapes, leaving birds struggling to find shelter and water. Trees and greenery are disappearing, making urban areas inhospitable for our feathered friends. Following the guidance of Revered Guruji Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji, devotees worldwide place bird feeders on their roofs and balconies. This simple act helps save millions of bird species each year by providing them with readily available food and water.
Dera Sacha Sauda’s Initiative for Bird Welfare: Installation of Over 5,000 Feeding Stations in Six Months
In response to this crisis, Dera Sacha Sauda has taken inspiring action to support bird welfare. Volunteers from this dedicated organization have installed nearly 5,212 kasore—special feeding and watering stations—for birds over a short span of six months, from January 2024 to June 2024. During this period across Haryana, thousands of bowls were distributed to support bird nurturing efforts by the volunteers of Dera Sacha Sauda. The distribution details are as follows:
– In Rohtak, 200 bowls were provided to arrange grains for feeding birds on rooftops.
– In Kurukshetra, 2,500 bowls were distributed, along with ration supplies to 13 needy families.
– In Ambala, 200 bowls were distributed.
– In Fatehabad, 800 bowls were distributed.
– In Bhiwani, 100 bowls were distributed.
– In Hisar, 1,000 bowls were distributed.

Creating Bird-Friendly Spaces: Enhancing Beauty and Ecosystem Health
Birds add a touch of nature’s beauty to our surroundings and play a crucial role in our ecosystem. By creating bird-friendly environments on our rooftops, in our backyards, and in other available spaces, we can support these beautiful creatures. This simple act of kindness brings us closer to nature, offering a sense of peace and connection. Birds help with seed dispersal, pollination, and controlling insect populations. By providing food and water, especially during harsh weather conditions and breeding seasons, we support their survival and contribute to the health of our environment.
Choosing the Right Feeders and Food to Create a Bird Haven
Feeding birds at home can be a deeply rewarding experience, transforming your outdoor space into a vibrant sanctuary. To get started, it’s essential to choose the right feeders. Tube feeders are perfect for small, nimble birds like finches, while platform feeders beckon a diverse array of species, including larger birds. To truly cater to our feathered friends, offering a varied menu is key. Mix in seeds, nuts, fruits, and suet to satisfy different dietary needs. Black oil sunflower seeds are a universal favorite, while peanuts and millets attract an exciting variety of species. By following these simple yet effective tips, you’ll create a delightful haven for birds, enriching both their lives and yours.
Providing Fresh Water and Safe Feeding Spots for Birds
Fresh water is vital for birds, offering them essentials for drinking and bathing. To create an inviting oasis, place shallow dishes of water in your garden, ensuring they are cleaned and refilled regularly. In winter, heated birdbaths become lifesavers, preventing water from freezing. Position your feeders thoughtfully to keep birds safe from predators like cats, ideally near dense shrubs or elevated spots for quick escapes. Also, place feeders at least five feet away from windows to avoid collisions.
Maintaining Cleanliness and Providing Nesting Materials for a Healthy Bird Sanctuary
Cleanliness is crucial to maintaining a healthy bird environment. Regularly clean feeders and birdbaths with a mild bleach solution, rinsing thoroughly before refilling. To make your space even more inviting, provide nesting materials like twigs and leaves. These simple yet impactful practices can transform your rooftop and backyard into a year-round sanctuary for a variety of bird species, creating a vibrant and harmonious environment right at home.

This awe-inspiring artwork serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of bird nurturing and the collective impact of community efforts.
As we confront the challenges of the unprecedented heat wave, the importance of supporting birds becomes increasingly evident. While we contend with these extreme conditions, it is vital to recognize the critical role we play in ensuring the well-being of our feathered companions, who lack the luxuries we often take for granted. By fostering a community-driven approach to bird conservation—through education, local collaboration, and practical measures such as creating bird-friendly habitats and communal feeding stations—we not only enhance our immediate environment but also contribute positively to the larger ecosystem. Together, we can make a meaningful difference, safeguarding the survival of birds and nurturing a deeper connection to the natural world. Let’s seize this opportunity to promote sustainability and preserve the beauty and biodiversity that birds bring to our lives.
